Approach Systems Support FAQ
• The APIC Moving Map is showing aviation data, but no terrain. How do I get terrain to show?
There are 3 things that must happen to get the terrain and geographical data to appear in APIC:
- Install the Terrain and Geographical Data (WestTerrainInstall.exe, NorthAmericaGeoDataInstall.exe)
- Enable the Terrain and Geographical Data in the APIC's Settings/Geo Data menu
- Have sufficient memory to display the Terrain and Geographical Data (PDA Only)
99% of the time users who cannot get their terrain to work have skipped or improperly performed one of these steps. If you have tried these steps and still cannot get the Terrain and Geographical data to display, you can manually verify that the files were installed. Verify that the terrain files are installed by going to the directory:
C:Program FilesApproachApicDataTerrain
If the terrain file you believe you installed is not there, you may need to run the file WestTerrainInstall.exe to install it.

•Why can't I download the software I purchased?
The download button for the software is available on the Order Information Page.
If the download button is not on this page it is because:
- Your Download Has Expired (Single Updates are Available for Only 7 Days)
- You have downloaded the file more times than the system has alloted.
If you believe this is in error please contact us at sales@approach-systems.com
You can access the Order Information Page by following these steps:
- Log In - Log In to your account using the link in the top right corner.
- My Account - Once logged in, click the My Account link at the top of the page.
- View - Find the order you purchased, and click View, this will take you to the Order Information Page.
- Download - The Order Information Page will have a link to download software associated with this order.

• When I try to download, the download will start, but will not finish, why?
This can be caused a faulty internet connection. Try downloading again later. If you are downloading the full set of approach plates, try downloading one of the smaller regional downloads.

International Data for APIC is available for many foreign countries.
It is available on our International Data page.
• Which AHARs or external gyro does APIC currently support?
APIC AutoPilot output sends out the following 4 NMEA data streams:
GPRMC,
GPRMB,
GPGGA,
GPBOD
If your autopilot doesn't accept these data streams then it will not work.
This part of the Users Manual has a list of the AHRS that we currently support.
It says:
Currently only the Apic-AHRS, Honeywell HMR3000 and HMR3300, eGyro-XP, XBowNav, XBow300, XBow400, and XBow500 are implemented. The Honeywell devices are low cost tilt compensated digital compasses and do not output valid roll data during dynamic flight conditions. As a result APIC will only use the heading and pitch data from these devices. Roll is computed from GPS data.
The eGyro-XP is from PC Flight Systems. We are also working with another company in Florida to incorporate their AHRS. It is listed as the Levil – AHRS. The Apic-AHRS and the Honeywell devices do not work well in dynamic flight conditions. The XBow devices are very pricey, so the current recommended device is the eGyro-XP from PC Flight Systems.
Pricing is available from the manufacturers.
• My version only has 9 sections to customize the view but online it shows 16 windows?

Once you have extracted the approach plates, launch the program ManageDTPP.exe.
Use ManageDTPP.exe program to copy the Approach Plates to the correct directory on your device.

• How do I install APIC on my PDA?
Step 1: Connect your PDA to a PC Computer with either Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista/7) or Microsoft ActiveSync (XP) installed.
Step 2: Install the Software. There are 3 individual installations to complete when initially installing APIC on a PDA:
***Run these installation files from your PC Computer***
- APIC Engine/Aviation Data (APICNorthAmericaInstall.exe)
- Terrain Data (WestTerrainInstall.exe)
- Geographical Data (NorthAmericaGeoData.exe)
All three must be installed for APIC to function correctly. The Terrain Data and Geographical Data only need to be installed once because this data doesn't change. The APIC Engine/Aviation Data should be reinstalled every 56 days to ensure the latest software features and current aviation data.
• When I run the program, I get the error: APIC is not a valid pocket pc application ?
If you are receiving this error, chances are you installed the wrong version of APIC on your PDA. Make sure in the installation options that you are installing the right version of the software for your PDA's operating system.
